It is indeed a ‘ruff’ life at The Phoenician Resort! Poor us, we will be basking in adulation while we pawtograph our new kids travel adventure book, It’s a King’s Life in Phoenix, at the beautiful Phoenician’s celebrated Easter brunch. We plan on kissing lots of babies and posing for photographs. Hopefully, we won’t have to contend with any aggressive puparazzi!

We will also be introducing Phoe-Phoe (fo-fo), the Resort’s cottontail bunny rabbit mascot, who is featured in our book. Phoe-Phoe was an exceptional model and a great tour guide of the property. Wait ’til you see where she took us! We sniffed out a lot of adventures with her. It must be noted that well-bred as she is, Phoe-Phoe’s no diva; she’s a playful and fun rabbit who we look forward to working with on more projects together.

Details of the event are as follows:

THE PHOENICIAN TO HOST LAUNCH OF LATEST CHILDREN’S BOOK IN DOG-FRIENDLY TRAVEL SERIES AS PART OF EASTER FESTIVITIES

It’s a King’s Life in Phoenix” Introduces the Rabbit Phoe-Phoe, the Luxury Resort’s Mascot

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (March 21, 2013) – Easter visitors to The Phoenician will have the opportunity to meet three local celebrities with the launch of the children’s book, “It’s a King’s Life in Phoenix,” the second installment in a series of dog-friendly travel adventures by the Scottsdale husband-and-wife publishing team of photo illustrator Dan Merchant and author Emily Randolph.  The AAA Five Diamond resort will host a special book signing Sunday, March 31, on the East Lawn from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

In addition to the illustrator and author, the stars of the paperback, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels Happy, Lady and Lucy, will be on hand for ‘pawtographs.’  Copies of the book, which introduces The Phoenician’s new mascot, a cottontail rabbit named Phoe-Phoe (fo-fo), will be available for purchase at $15.00 each.   Additional escapades featuring the loveable dog trio and Phoe-Phoe are currently being planned.

“Our partnership with Dan and Emily is the perfect complement to our recently enhanced Funicians Club, sharing the love of both travel and animals with our young guests,” said Caitlin McAllister, The Phoenician’s director of leisure and recreation.  “Collaborating with Happy, Lady and Lucy on this book was an absolute joy!”

Said Author Emily Randolph, “We are delighted to be working with The Phoenician, where we have celebrated many landmark occasions.  In light of The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician’s recent dog-friendly program expansion and its charitable work with the Arizona Humane Society, we just had to feature the resort and spread the word.”

“It’s a King’s Life in Phoenix”

The 40-page children’s book follows the dogs as they “sniff out adventure” in the Valley of the Sun – from its scenic landscape and Wild West roots, to its arts culture and resort offerings.  Uniquely designed with photo illustrations, the publication captures real dogs doing real things.  Included is a Resource Guide for Dog Lovers, making it ideal for both residents and visitors who want to explore the Phoenix area with their dogs.  “Though we want our stories to be whimsical, we want our explorations to be authentic so our readers can get out in the real world and discover both our and ultimately their own adventures,” said Randolph.

About Dan Merchant & Emily Randolph

Dan Merchant and Emily Randolph are the husband-and-wife publishing team of Happy Lady Productions, founded in Scottsdale in 2012.  Merchant is a photographer and photo illustrator of the King’s Life series, “Some Days You’re the Dog… Some Days, the Hydrant!” and “Limericks by the Brothers Randolph.”  Randolph is the writer whose credits include the King’s Life series, “Dima’s Dog School: The Foolproof Way to Train Your Dog,” and “Dogs Are…Just Like You!”

The couple left their long-term careers as marketing consultants to combine their love of dogs and storytelling with a way to give back and get involved in their community.  They started by donating the children’s picture book, “Dogs Are…Just Like You!” to Phoenix pet therapy charity, Gabriel’s Angels.  Today, a substantial portion of all their sales goes to select animal welfare and pet therapy charities.

Located at the base of Camelback Mountain, the 250-acre Phoenician offers two exquisite experiences – a 583-room AAA Five Diamond luxury resort hotel and an exclusive Five Diamond boutique hotel, The Canyon Suites — at one magnificent destination.  The property features elegant, residential-style accommodations, distinctive and tantalizing cuisine across such restaurants as Il Terrazzo, J&G Steakhouse and Relish Burger Bistro, a championship golf course, 11 tennis courts, nine swimming pools, The Centre for Well-Being and Salon Mila spa complex, an activities program for all ages and interests, numerous boutique shops, a $25 million art collection and the premier 15,000 square-foot Camelback Ballroom.  In addition to these offerings, the stylish 60-room Canyon Suites provides more intimate surroundings and enhanced, personalized services, creating an atmosphere of uncompromising splendor.  Both The Phoenician and The Canyon Suites are owned and operated by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., as part of The Luxury Collection.
