‘Sneak Peek’: The Making of ‘It’s a King’s Life’

Is it hard for us being the canine stars of It’s a Kings Life in Carmel-by-the-Sea? Are we tired of the attention and madness of the puparazzi? Has the sheen come off being asked for our pawtographs? Are we put off by the mud digging of other dog stars? The truth is, no! Our newly found celebrity is rather much to our liking thus far.

The idea for It’s a King’s Life was ours, of course (but don’t tell mom and dad we said so.) It coincided with a special invitation to a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel beach party in California, a charity event that took place directly on Carmel Beach in Carmel-by-the-Sea. We’re Scottsdale desert dogs, so imagine our jubilation at an invitation to enjoy cool water and to stretch our legs on that delicious off-leash, 1-mile long beach. We pawed that invite right under mom and dad’s noses and convincingly barked our intention to attend. And so we did.

When we arrived in Carmel, we went where we always hang our leashes, the Cypress Inn, a landmark, pet-friendly boutique hotel since 1929 and owned by Doris Day. There is no place like it. Dogs are treated like kings and queens with their own pet blankets for the bed, water bowls, lots of pats and attention, and biscuits at breakfast, in addition to whatever mom and dad are having at the complementary continental breakfast that would put anyone from ‘The Continent’ to shame!

We can’t dish out on everything that happened while we were in Carmel because that would be a ‘ruff’ spoiler. Suffice to say, we got in a lick of trouble and it was this one little bit of innocent mischief that gave us the inspiration to tell our story – a ‘tail’ of adventure that will inspire children (and their parents) to nurture their curiosity and sniff out new experiences to really live life to the fullest.

We wish all of you mischief, especially as we head into the holidays and Mischief Night will soon be upon us. In the meantime, please enjoy this ‘sneak peek’ inside It’s a King’s Life in Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Remember, dogs are people, too!
