Look out world, there’s a new dog in town – and her name is Lucy. And before you start singing Adam Sandler’s theme to 50 First Dates (our Lucy, though not forgetful, does have a nice caboosey), we named her after that fiery redhead, Lucille Ball. She’s smart, funny and gorgeous! And it gives us even extra reason to say, “I love Lucy!”
Lucy is a one-year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel rescued from a puppy mill by a very dedicated group of individuals from the Cavalier Rescue Foundation. That’s about all we know of her past. A new friend of ours posted a link about her on Facebook, and that’s how we “discovered” her. She absolutely knocked our white socks (all eight of them) right off! As you can see by her photo, she has a blazing red coat; it literally takes your breath away when the sun shines upon it. Not even Merida from Pixar’s new Brave can hold a candle to our Lucy. And that’s saying a lot, considering it took six years for the creators of Merida to get her hair just right. It’s hard to top Mother Nature.
Lucy was first placed in a wonderful foster home, a family that has five cavaliers of their own, some of them with very special needs. They lovingly spoiled her like one of theirs, and Lucy wagged her tail from day one of walking through their door. She is obviously a dog of great perseverance, hope and courage to have survived her situation with seemingly so little negative impact. Thank you, Katherine and John, your children and all your dogs, for nurturing her until a home could be found for her. We are honored to be her forever home – even though she has stolen our spot next to our mommy’s side at night.
Our next challenge is to see if Lucy can write. We think she would do well covering the stories about all the rescues that need new homes. We certainly know that she is now our muse. She may never be able to reveal her full story, but we will make sure this new chapter will be everything she is hoping for and more.
Remember, dogs are people, too!
Your faithful cavaliers,
Happy & Lady Randolph
