The Human-Canine Connection

We have often heard our humans marvel at our ability to understand them, to anticipate their every move. Indeed, it is a marvelous connection we dogs have with humans – and it is the only one like it in the world. We dogs are, apparently, unique in our ability to study human faces for clues, according to one of our favorite books, Inside of a Dog, by Alexandra Horowitz. We are the greatest anthropologists of humans, other than humans themselves.

So, it is really no surprise that we are wonderful caregivers to our humans, especially those in need. We have the privilege of being associated with the charity, Gabriel’s Angels, which provides pet therapy for at-risk children. The organization was founded by a great and regal Weimaraner named Gabriel, who walked into a crisis center one day and seem to magically heal the children there. That was 12 years ago, and the charity goes from strength to strength, helping over 13,000 children every year. Call it magic. Call it love. It is a happy symbiosis. When it comes to working with humans, dogs quite royally rule.

Remember, dogs are people, too!
Your faithful Cavaliers,
